What are the opportunities for marketers targeting users in the region?

Internet in our region retains a substantial audience. Latest studies have shown that the MENA internet users spend more time online than watching TV throughout the day. The studies have also showed that the internet usage in our region remains at its peak all day long compared to other media. This indicates that the internet has become the number one media consumed by users during the day, thus opening new opportunities for marketers to target users in the region. Google Webmaster: Unifying content under multilingual templates

If you have a global site containing pages where the:

  • template (i.e. side navigation, footer) is machine-translated into various languages,
  • main content remains unchanged, creating largely duplicate pages,

and sometimes search results direct users to the wrong language, we’d like to help you better target your international/multilingual audience through:

A new solution for localized templates

First of all, just to be clear, the strategy we’re proposing isn’t appropriate for multilingual sites that completely translate each page’s content. We’re trying to specifically improve the situation where the template is localized but the main content of a page remains duplicate/identical across language/country variants.

How to become a trusted website to increase your search engine rankings

The authority of a website influences its position in the search results on Google and other search engines. If you want to see your website on Google’s first result page, you have to make sure that search engines trust your site.

There are several things that you can do to show search engines that your website is trustworthy:

1. Get links from seed sites or from websites that are linked from seed sites

Seed sites are websites that are manually marked as trustworthy by the search engine owners. For example, if Apple.com has been chosen as a seed website by Google then a link from Apple.com will have a positive effect on the TrustRank of your website.

Of course, it is very difficult to get a link from a trusted seed site. Fortunately, the websites that are linked from the seed sites also have a positive effect on the linked sites.

If Apple.com links to website site2.com, website site2.com links to website site3.com and website site3.com links to your website then your website will still get a good TrustRank.

2. Get links from related websites

Does your website get links from related websites and does it link to other related websites?

Is your website a lonely island with no links from and to other websites or is it integrated in a network that deals with a special topic? The better your website is integrated in a network of topical sites (by different owners), the more likely it is that your website is a good resource for that topic.

3. Don’t link to spam websites

Avoid links to websites of dubious quality. If a website is a known spammer, do not link to the site at all.

If you link to such a website, you show search engines that you support them and that your own website should not be trusted too much.

4. Try to get links from social networks

The more often your website is mentioned on social media websites, the more likely it is that your website is a trustworthy high quality website. The more votes your bookmarks on social media sites get, the better.

5. Offer more than just a few websites

A website that consists of only one page won’t be considered an authority website. Search engines want to show good websites with good content in the search results.

If your website has many pages that contain great content about a certain topic then it is much easier to get a good TrustRank.

Only search after the break with Baidu, Taobao need to rediscover their own way this channel. Taobao need in the search field to find the ideal partner to strengthen its own search capabilities.

The SEO pyramid: do the right things in the right order

Search engine optimization is not difficult but it has to be done right. If you do the right things then you still might not succeed. The reason for that is that you have to do the right things in the right order.

1. Keywords

The keywords that you choose for your search engine optimization activities greatly influence your online success. If you target the wrong keywords, all of your efforts will be in vain.

2. On-page optimization

Once you know the keywords for which you want to be ranked, you have to optimize your web pages for these keywords. Optimize as many different pages for as many different keywords as possible.

3. Usability and conversion optimization

Even if your website gets hundreds of visitors per day, it still might not deliver sales because the web pages are not user friendly.

4. Link building

When all other elements are in place, you can start to get backlinks for your website. In general, more than one web page has been optimized for a given search term so the web page with the best backlinks will be listed in the top results on Google.

All elements must be in place and they must be in the right order

If you just have links then you won’t get sales if your web pages don’t convert. If you have optimized web pages, they won’t help you if they are optimized for the wrong keywords.

If you have the right keywords and well optimized web pages that convert then you still need good backlinks to get on Google’s first result page.

Ken McGaffin Interviewed by Eric Enge

Wordtracker recently announced their new link building tool, Word Tracker Link Builder. This tool is based on the Majestic SEO link database.

Interview Transcript

Eric Enge: Could you tell me a bit about the nature of how you’ve worked with Majestic?

Ken McGaffin: We’ve worked very closely with Majestic for the last two years. They have been providing us with specific keyword information, which really adds value to the metrics we are able to do. Because they also have tremendous backlink information, we have been looking at ways to also utilize that. Link analysis is brilliant because, when used the right way, there are absolutely fantastic things to find out and understand.

People ultimately want to build links so when we were thinking about this tool, our thought was to work very closely with Majestic, take their information via an API, and build a tool around that information. Ideally, the tool would not only analyze inbound links, but would also help people through the process of link building, which is where we see ourselves adding value. It’s not simply taking the API from Majestic and labeling it. Our goal is to offers real value in terms of people researching, and implementing link campaigns.
